National Park Krka has become one of the most visited natural destinations in Croatia thanks to its unique waterfalls and diverse landscapes. Located in the Dalmatian hinterland near Šibenik and Skradin, the park covers more than 100 km² along the Krka River and the lower course of the Čikola River.
Krka National Park is an area of exceptional natural value and a preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystem. The main highlights of Krka National Park are its spectacular waterfalls. The most famous is Skradinski Buk, often considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Europe. Stretching over 400 metres and formed by a series of 17 cascades, it creates an unforgettable natural landscape surrounded by historic watermills and wooden walking paths.
Another popular attraction is Roški Slap, known for its peaceful surroundings and scenic hiking trails. Between these waterfalls lies Visovac Island, a small island in the middle of Visovac Lake where a Franciscan monastery has stood since the 14th century. The island is also home to one of the smallest printed books in the world, measuring just a few millimetres in size.
History lovers will also enjoy visiting the Krka Monastery of Arhanđelovac, as well as the remains of the Roman military camp and Burnum Amphitheatre, which provide a glimpse into the Roman history of the region. Nearby, you can also see Manojlovac waterfall, the highest waterfall in the park, rising nearly 60 metres.
Although the park is most visited during the summer months, the best time to explore Krka is often spring and early autumn, when the trails are less crowded, and the waterfalls are particularly impressive. The entrance fee is also affordable. During winter, increased rainfall often makes the cascades even more powerful and dramatic.
